Johnetta Mcleod is a woman of many accomplishments nonetheless she is most admired for being family-oriented and her philanthropic work. Johnetta is the proud mother of 4 children and 7 grandchildren all of which are Detroit natives and have been educated through the Detroit Public School system. Her oldest daughter resides in Dallas, Texas where she is a schoolteacher and an Ordained Minister. Her second oldest is a Bio-Med Tech. She travels the country as a Bio-Med Tech and songstress. Johnetta’s third oldest is the CEO of his own Pest Control business in Nashville, Tennessee. Last of the bunch but never least her fourth child resides in Detroit and he is a music producer.
Education was always held to a high standard for Johnetta. She earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Wayne County Community College and later went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in Health Services and Gerontology at Spring Arbor University in 1991.
Currently, Johnetta has retired from The City of Detroit where she served for over 40 years. Amazingly, 15 of those 40 years were served at the Detroit Health Department. After working in the health field, she later worked under the leadership of Mayor Dennis A. Archer in the office of The Finance Department Revenue Collections Unit where she successfully collected over Three Hundred Million dollars in tax revenue.
As time progressed Johnetta became the president of Detroit Direct Development LLC. In this business, over 100 lots were purchased within the New Far Eastside Project. Even after all the above accomplishments Johnetta’s servitude and philanthropy work were nowhere near complete. From that point on Johnetta later became the Administrative Assistant to the councilman Clyde Cleveland 1995-1997. In 1997, No sooner after being an assistant to Mr. Cleveland, he endorsed her to run for City Council.
Keeping the community at heart Johnetta also served on the board of directors for My Aunty Place as a community Activist. She later established a Substance Abuse Center where we assisted over 1,800 clients before the director retired. Also in 1997 up until presently, she served on the advisor board as a Liaison for the institution of Gerontology of Wayne State University.
When it comes to ministry Johnetta has been saved and serving since her youth. She started Singing Gospel with the Heavenly Stars of Detroit at a young age This group travel all over the country. They recorded many albums in Nashville Tennessee. She’s been on stage with many of the best Gospel singers in the Industry. Going in a different direction in ministry Johnetta left the group after 24 years.
